 Hydronic Baseboard

  26. What are the 3 types of heating oil systems and what’s my take

Here’s the 3 types of heating systems

1-a Forced air: Forced hot air can be difficult when it comes to keeping air temperature constant. In many cases, the air can actually feel cold, or you’ll get spells of very hot air, or very cold air.

It can be quite inconsistent even with the newer model heating systems. On the other hand, forced air can also heat a cold home faster than any other type of system. (continues below)

2-a Steam: Steam systems rely on convection instead of circulation pumps. (Hot air rises, cold falls.)

These systems can also be very hard to control regarding heat when and where you need it. Temperature in individual rooms is adjusted by valves on the individual radiators

3-a Hydronic: Also known as a closed hot water system. It’s much easier to consistently control home comfort with this type of system.

Hydronic baseboards are the usual choice for homes in my area. I like it the best and for my money hydronic is a no brainer.

The most basic differences in these systems is

  • that forced air systems use a furnace,

  • while steam and hydronic systems use boilers
