33. Biodiesel, is it all it’s cracked up to be?
Biodiesel is getting all sorts of positive PR, but no matter how you slice it, the actual biodeisel fuel uses a very low percentage of organic oil. I’ve seen the standard as low as only 5% added to fuel oil.
Funny thing is, it increases the cost of the fuel and decreases the total number of BTU’s that standard fuel oil produces. (continues below)
I suppose if you have extra money and want to help the environment, you can buy it.
Here’s the rub, there are other ways to make a more powerful, positive impact on the environment rather than doing it through biodiesel.
Oh one more important thing:
Biodeisel gels at a much higher temperature than standard fuel oil.
That means it’s even more critical to keep biodeisel warm.
