Cheap Home Oil
18. Which fuel is the cheapest home oil in my region?
You’ll hear the term BTU bantered about every time you see a service tech or a sales guy. It stands for British Thermal Unit. One BTU is equal to the amount of energy it takes to raise one pound of water one degree Fahrenheit at sea level. (continues below)
Now, most oil burners sold these days range from 150,000 to 560,000 Btu’s per hour. Just so you know, one gallon of fuel oil will generate a whopping 139,000 Btu’s.
You can literally compare the cost per BTU of a cord of wood to a gallon of oil, a cubic foot of natural gas or a kilowatt of electricity.
