Annual furnace or burner cleaning problems and solutions
It can gets really confusing.
Some companies offer service plans & bundled in the full service plan is the full tune-up, or annual cleaning.
Some may offer 24-hour emergency repairs, parts and labor…
They usually charge you annually for this and I’ve seen them bundle a good/better/best service plan with the tune-up.
It’s like an insurance policy… only worse.
Some people call it service plan hell.
As something gets older, the chances of breakdowns increase. So if the chances for breakdown increase, then you should be paying more to cover that risk.
If you have a relatively new unit, it doesn’t make sense to pay the same amount of money that you would if you had a 25 year-old unit.
Unfortunately some of these oil companies just don’t get it.
Let’s say you’ve had a burner and a furnace for 12 years or less. In my opinion the way these oil guys are offering service plans now, I wouldn’t buy it.
If the oil company is a more progressive and customer focused company, they’ll offer you a service plan, but based it on the age of the furnace. There are only a handful of companies that offer service plans with this twist.
I have a list that I could share with oil companies if they’ll listen. It would certainly give you and I a better sense of NOT getting taken advantage of.
Let’s see if anyone takes me up on it.
