Full Quick Start List Page 1 of 3

arrow2 I you’re in the market for a new boiler or furnace efficiencies… you need to take a hard look at the energy star brands that have a AFUE (Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency) rating of 90% or more.

arrow2 Buy premium oil or at the very least go to your local plumbing or hardware store & buy a fuel additive. I suggest Fuel Right. It’s an all purpose additive that’ll help the performance of both your oil and your burner. I use it myself.

Have a look at the results with the technical details and the tests so you’ll don’t just have to take my word for it.  (continues below)

arrow2 Get a tune up or some companies call it a cleaning, in the last 12 months it’s critical you get one right away. It’ll make a great deal of difference in your efficiency & dramatically reduce your chances of breaking down this winter.
Done properly it’s a huge preventative maintenance and makes it more efficient.

arrow2 If money is tight and you want to check out the efficiency of your heating system with out having it cost you any money.

Here’s a trick that a tech recently shared with me…  Call your local oil company and tell them you think you need a new heating system and you’d like to perform an efficiency test to see if it’s necessary.

Chances are very good they’ll come out and do it for free.

Don’t take a chance; make sure you ask if you will be charged before they come out. Once they are there you can get an efficiency test done on your system. Make sure to read my tips to make sure the numbers they are quoting you are the correct efficiency numbers.

arrow2 If you are on pre buy, cap price, fixed price, what ever… check out the financial health of your oil company. Times are tough in general these last few years and I’ve seen dozens of oil companies go bankrupt under the pressure.

The last thing you need is to have your oil company skip town with your money or stiff you on your ability to get oil in the middle of the season.

arrow2 Get a Beckett Heat Manager installed if you have a boiler or a Intelledyne if you have a forced hot air furnace. These products work and will save you at least 10% on your heating oil usage.

How’s this for a guarantee? If it doesn’t work, the companies will buy back their products. How’s that for some teeth!

arrow2 Install a programmable thermostat. .. the right way.

Make sure to find out exactly how to use it so you can save the most money.

Many programmable thermostats aren’t set correctly and may
use even more fuel than a standard thermostat. There is a science to setting and using a thermostat properly.
